Spiritual crisis (also called "spiritual emergency") is a form of identity crisis where an individual experiences drastic changes to their meaning system (i.e., their unique purposes, goals, values, attitude and beliefs, identity, and focus) typically because of a spontaneous spiritual experience.
This spiritual crisis involves many levels of our selves including the physical, mental and emotional. As such it can be confusing for many people. When unexpected events occur, especially painful ones, many find it difficult to believe that a loving God has our best interest at heart. “Why me?” or “What kind of a God would let this kind of suffering occur?”
This is an issue that can face us even when nothing difficult has happened.
